I found a Pet

When you find a pet, the first thing you want to do is make sure the animal is not injured. If it is sevrely injured or you are not sure, take it to the nearest vet. You can also call your local animal control. If the animal is not severely injured, you can call your local animal control or take it to the nearest animal shelter. If the animal has visable ID tags, feel free to call the number located on them and try to reunite them. If you are unable to reach them, let them know you will bring the animal to the shelter or that you have called animal control. Sometimes micochip numbers will be displayed on the collar (generally in the form of a yellow tag similar to a rabies or license tag). Usually it will have the name of the company the chip is registered with. If not you can locate the company here by entering the chip number. The top result is the most current. If the animal has a rabies tag, it should list the vet clinic that issued it. They can generally retrieve owner info by the rabies tag number. Posting on social media is a great resource but is not a subsitute for contacting animal control/law enforcement and your local shelter
