Animals we have helped
The CART team averages 1 call per day with spring and summer being the busiest. We pride ourselves on being species non exclusive and willing to respond for any animal regardless of species. Below are some of the calls we have been on
Great Horned Owl Chick
This Great Horned Owl chick had fallen from the nest. Our first option is to place it back in the tree in an artificial nest and check to see if mom comes back.
Baby Wildlife
Baby animals are always a concern, especially in spring and summer. Most of the time, "orphaned" animals are not actually orphaned, mom just went to get some food. Usually we will leave suspected orphans alone and monitor for mom. If she doesn't come back then we will take them to rehab. In some states, some animals have special requirements. Please contact your local animal control or animal rehab before moving baby animals.
Red-Tailed Hawk
Red-Tailed Hawks are pretty common for us. Generally they present with wing, leg or head injuries from car collisions. They are commonly hit while they are swooping down to catch prey.
Deer
We get approximately 5-10 deer/fawn calls a year. In most cases it is a case of misinterpreting fawn behavior for being orphaned. If at all possible, we try to reunite fawns with mom. Unless she is witnessed as deceased, generally she will come back once people are not around
